Do you want sailing to be a real experience for you?
Based on our experience, we've collected 10 things to keep in mind to remember your sails every time you watch.
- Always carefully map your situation before departure, adjusting to the wind and your manschaft!
- Always take 10 minutes to plan your route and share this in detail with the crew who will help you, give them training on sailing!
- Check the wind forecast, choose a route accordingly (if it is strong north winds do not want to bathe on the south coast).
- Check the boat's fuel level and water supply.
- Before departure, make an accurate departure plan (who does what and where)!
- Do not forget to unplug the power cord before you start!
- Pick up the buffers on board before departure and arrival (the buffer only protects from the adjacent ship, not the column).
- If you are unfamiliar with the handling parts of the boat, ask us for help!
- After departure, secure the harbor ropes to the bow and tail rail with a secure loop so that they cannot fall into the water if the boat is capsized. Ropes are not afraid of water, they are afraid of the propeller! Rewinding a rope is dangerous if done at the mouth of the harbor and very expensive if you are out of luck (rescue, crane, engine repair).
- Let the rope that you did not tie be tied! (The captain is also responsible for the ship left in the port!)
- Also teach your crew the necessary knots so you don't have to knife to clear the ropes after an average mooring!
- Don't lose your anchor just because you forgot to tie it up!
- Always anchor against the wind!
- The body of the boat is vulnerable, so the anchor should only get caught in the bed!
- Allow an anchor rope equal to five times the water depth so that the anchor will catch in the ground, not just fish with it!
- Choose the best possible place: do not anchor in a boat trip, in the mouth of the harbor, if the wind turns, the boat should have enough space to follow it!
- Make sure that the propeller cannot pick up the anchor rope.
The most common and most expensive rescue operation is to free a stranded ship from a reef, especially in stormy winds.
- Observe the cardinal signs, especially in the passage between the two pools ("Pipe").
- Do not go closer than 1500 m to the south and 1000 m to the north shore!
- Only approach the ports, especially on the south coast, in a perpendicular direction!
It needs to be refreshed when it first comes to mind! The speed of the boat depends on the well-chosen sail surface, which in each case requires a gradual reduction in the sail area in increasing winds!
If there is a rope there is a reason! Sailing is a technical sport. All handling devices on a boat are designed so that the forces of wind and water can be controlled by one person on the boat. However, it is often the case that something makes it difficult for the controls to work ... a pinched rope, an loose steering wheel (autopilot). One of the most common phenomena is a hoisting rope loosened by an inattentive manschaft, which then, when winding the sail, is forced into the wire rope of the forstag and "unfolds" it, causing the mast to fall off ... It has a sign winch arm is also required).
Take into account the combined experience of your passengers and yourself and move forward in steps! It is not necessarily a good decision if you are waiting for the promised “good wind” with a full sail in a second-degree storm signal, in a bathing suit ... The sails can be released on the ship in several stages, you don't have to pull everything up right away because your passengers want it.
We are happy to help the boat arrive at the port at any time. Sometimes the wind gets so strong that even with a lot of practice, the mooring is exciting ... If you feel like it, give us a call and we’ll help you get through the harbor maneuver by transferring from a motorboat.
Tell us! If you have a comment, a request, give it a word and let us help. In 10 years, there was nothing we couldn't find a solution to! We don't know everything about shipping either, but we're happy to pass it on!
It is worth discussing the details of the ship's handling in the port, even if you ask us for help and practice with us. We love teaching the ship much more than repairing injuries. If you are not at the helm of the boat, come and sit for a charter preparation course or ask for individual training and sailing will be a positive experience!
